Information discussed at an earlier stage, including during video consultation, may change after in-person examination. No surgical plan is final until the pre-operative assessment has been completed.

Informed consent

For surgical procedures requiring anaesthesia, informed consent is not intended to be reduced to a single document signed immediately before surgery. Where appropriate, consent documents may be shared with the patient before the operative date so that the procedure, recovery process, limitations, and potential complications can be reviewed in advance.

Measures taken in the interest of patient safety — including planning and clinical process measures — do not eliminate the possibility of complications. For that reason, the patient should have the opportunity to ask questions and receive the necessary explanations before surgery. Outcomes
